Description

Molise is second smallest region in Italy, the youngest (recognised in the ’80s) and the least densely populated. So untouched is Molise that UNESCO has chosen it for two of its four Italian biosphere locations. Isernia, where L’Arco Antico is located, is the most inland area of Molise and it was an important religious center in medieval times.
L’Arco Antico (translated “The Ancient Arch”) farm was founded in 1865 when a local family took over the land that once belonged to the nearby monastery (current owner Alessandro Melone still complains that every time they start digging for whatever reason they find historical remains…) with the first vineyard planted in 1890.

Tintilia is a historical grape variety from Molise, probably introduced in the area by Spanish settlers (“tinto” translates ar “red” in Spanish).
As this grape variety naturally produces tiny bunches it was considered anti-economical and almost disappeared during the seventies.
Alessandro Melone decided instead to replant the original clone from his area in the best vineyard of his farm, to show its amazing potential.
Currently the production stands at 3 barrels (1800 bottles).

Powerful, tannic and concentrated; it reminds of a spicy Amarone. It matches any strong flavoured dish or aged cheese.
Decanting necessary because of the presence of sediments. Drink at room temperature within 10 years.
