The Land
Menicucci is located in Abruzzo, aka “the greenest region in Europe” as almost half of its territory, the largest in Europe, is set aside as national parks and protected nature reserves. The visiting nineteenth-century Italian diplomat and journalist Primo Levi (1853–1917) said that the adjectives “forte e gentile” (strong and kind) best describe the beauty of the region and the character of its people. “Forte e gentile” has since become the motto of the region and its inhabitants.
The winery is settled in Canosa Sannita, a village a few miles inland from the famous “Trabocchi Coast”.
The region was known in the past for massive production of lower quality wines, but it has now established itself as a proper wine region.
The People
It was 1970 when Antonio Menicucci planted the first vines in his land located between Ortona and Canosa Sannita, the beloved area where he spent all of his life.
3 generations later, Antonio’s dream continues with Emanuele, who now proudly carries the torch.
The Menicucci family produces a variety of award winning, hand-crafted wines, based on the traditional grape varieties of the area: Montepulciano, Pecorino e Passerina.
The whole production follows organic certification guidelines.
Menicucci are the first in Abruzzo and the second in Italy to use the helix cork – an innovative cork-glass wine packaging solution. With this natural cork, there is no need of a corkscrew – just twist the cork and enjoy the wine!
The Wines
“Ginesia” Pecorino IGP Terre di Chieti : made with 100% organic Pecorino grapes, Ginesia is deliciously fresh, fruity and with long finish
“Ginesia” Passerina IGP Terre di Chieti : Passerina is a rare grape variety recently being rediscovered. It’s not very clear were it originated from; but it definitely found its home in Abruzzo where it seems very comfortable!
Ginesia is made with 100% organic Passerina grapes, and it creates a round dry wine with sweet citrus notes and a nice acidity
“Ginesia” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOP : A signature wine from Abruzzo, Ginesia is made with 100% organic Montepulciano grapes.
Ruby red color, with lots of red cherry fruit, this medium-bodied wine with soft tannins pairs perfectly with a variety of meaty pasta sauces or grilled red meats.
Ginesia uses an innovative, unique and modern packaging technology: Helix.
