Prosecco vineyards

Castello Carboncine is located in Treviso, between the mountains and the Venetian lagoon, next to the Silea river.

The main building dates back to 1600, when the “Serenissima” (the Repuplic of Venice) was at its apex and a major center of trade.

Legend has it that the Templar Knights, on their way to and from Venice,
always made a stop in the area to stock up for the journey
(there is still an old Templar temple within the Carboncine estate).

However, the French will become the major influence in the area with the Napoleonic wars;
and it’s quite possible Castello Carboncine might have been the estate of a French aristocrat at some point.

This might explain the unusual marriage of Italian tradition and French styles:

Isabella and Susanna are very proud to preserve the grapes and the styles of wines made in the area for centuries…
but the result is undoubtedly transalpine!

A few examples?

The Riserva, their flagship label, is an elegant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc aged in large barrels for 7 years (left-bank Bordeaux anyone?).

“Gazia”, a delightful Chardonnay aged in acacia barrels made on-site with local trees, reminds your taste buds of a nice Chablis.

What about their Malbec? Actually Malbech, as the Venitian spelling goes…
Very different from the modern South American style, it instead makes one think of the Malbec-based wines of Cahors, in Occitanie.

Even their Prosecco is always been made with a long Charmat method (6 months instead of the usual 3-4 weeks),
adding a layer of ‘finesse’ to the quintessential Italian sparkler…
