Limoncino Artigianale 25% 70cl Distilleria Caselli1860

£22.50£119.00

Artisanal liqueur, made with lemon peel from Amalfi coast.

Description

Established in 1860 by Galdino Caselli, this is the first artisanal distillery to produce Nocino (the local, traditional walnut liqueur) for commercial purposes in the backroom of their drugstore in the center of Sassuolo. At the time the endeavour was ridiculed by the town’s inhabitants – as centenary traditions dictate, every household of the Modena area handcrafted its own balsamic vinegar and Nocino; who would they sell to?

Persistence paid off with the recognition of the Gold Medal at the International Expo of Rome 1924, all the way to the recent awards at International Spirit Challenge 2015.

The distillery is still family owned and now managed by Francesco Caselli; who is still using some of the founders’ original recipes (secretly guarded).

Limoncino is obtained, as tradition dictates, from the infusion of lemon peel from the Amalfi coast, it has a natural and pleasant scent and flavour of zesty, freshly picked lemons. Francesco decided not to call it ‘Limoncello’ as a sign of respect to the historical Amalfi producers – as he’s based in Modena.

Serve frozen cold.
